What happened
Auditor-General Reah Kujinga's reports on Parliament for 2023 and 2024 found that at least five payments over US$20,000 each — covering a rebuilt perimeter wall, chandeliers and furniture, bedroom and kitchen upgrades, and curtains, totaling roughly US$372,260 — were made to hand-picked suppliers to renovate Senate President Mabel Chinomona's private residence, without the competitive bidding procurement law requires. Parliament defended the picks as being for "artistic and qualitative reasons," a justification the Auditor-General rejected. Chinomona and the Clerk of Parliament declined to respond, and the Public Accounts Committee had to summon officials who initially resisted appearing.
