What happened
The Indian Express reported on 23 September 2026 that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi formally objected at least 14 times over ten months to decisions by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, including a modified Form 6 voter-registration declaration they described as 'unauthorised and illegal', and escalated some to the Cabinet Secretary. Commission sources say all decisions were unanimous. On 5 October 2026 a Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant said it had not approved any modified Form 6, contradicting the Commission's 26 September claim, and said it would examine the record to see who made the change; it issued notice on a petition challenging the 14 decisions.
