What happened
On Aug. 4, 2026 the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Committee on Ethics released a statement that the Committee, under Committee Rule 18(a), is reviewing allegations that Rep. Max Miller may have engaged in domestic violence and abuse or illegal drug use in violation of the Code of Official Conduct or any other applicable standard of conduct. The statement says the mere fact of the review does not indicate that any violation has occurred. NPR reports that the announcement came after Miller said he would file his own request for an ethics investigation, and that the allegations come in part from court records in his custody dispute with his ex-wife, Emily Moreno. Miller denies them: NPR reports he said he has never been physically abusive toward Moreno or abused their daughter, and he wrote that he has "absolutely nothing to hide." The Committee has published no finding or later statement on the matter as of Oct. 5, 2026, so the review is pending.
