What happened
In February 2025 Iceland's Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour apologized to the Althingi's Parliamentary Ombudsman for never answering an inquiry the Ombudsman sent in April 2024 about disability rights advocacy (réttindagæsla). The ministry said it had since taken steps to ensure inquiries are answered within the required deadline. The lapse surfaced as the ministry arranged interim disability-advocacy services after the old system ended at year-end and a new Human Rights Institution was delayed to spring; disability groups criticized its hiring of temporary specialists without public advertisement.
