What happened
Vili Beroš, Croatia's Minister of Health from January 2020, was arrested on 15 November 2024 on suspicion of taking bribes in hospital medical-equipment procurement and dismissed by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković the same day. The European Public Prosecutor's Office said it had initiated the case; on 19 November 2024 Chief State Attorney Ivan Turudić ruled that Croatia's USKOK, not the EPPO, had jurisdiction. In July 2025 USKOK filed an indictment against Beroš and seven other people, which prosecutors say involves bribery, abuse of position and influence peddling. The charges are allegations; Beroš has not been convicted.
