What happened
On January 27, 2026, Denmark's Parliamentary Ombudsman, Christian Britten Lundblad, concluded a review of two journalists' complaints over the Justice Ministry's partial refusal of access to documents about Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard's book "Der er noget, vi skal tale om." The ombudsman agreed that documents exchanged only among ordinary civil servants were internal and could be withheld. He disagreed that documents exchanged solely for the book project between the minister or his special adviser and ministry staff could be withheld as internal, because the minister wrote and published the book purely as a private individual and party politician. The ombudsman recommended the ministry reopen both cases and reassess the access requests. The ministry had already reopened one journalist's case on December 19, 2025 and granted partial access to two documents.
