What happened
An April 2026 performance audit by Utah's Office of the Legislative Auditor General set out to determine whether Utah has enough behavioral health beds. An audit supervisor told the Legislative Management Committee that no one could answer that question, because no single entity collects bed capacity data across public and private facilities. The audit recommends a central authority and a real-time statewide bed registry. Legislative auditors presented the audit to the Legislative Management Committee in April 2026. It is the seventh audit in the Legislative Auditor's behavioral health series.
