What happened
On 14 September 2026 the Election Commission of Thailand voted to refer 77 people, including 26 serving senators, to the Supreme Court over the 2024 Senate selection. It found no grounds to proceed against anyone on two allegations concerning political figures helping candidates win seats, so no party executives or MPs were referred. The case file had named 229 people, including 21 ministers, MPs and Bhumjaithai Party executives; Bhumjaithai leads the government under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Commission chair Narong Klanwarin said each case was reviewed individually on specific conduct, and that the commission welcomes court scrutiny. The referral asks the court to consider electoral disqualification and is not a finding of guilt.
