What happened
Aurelio Valdez Alcántara, a prosecutor with PEPCA (the Dominican Public Ministry's specialized anti-corruption unit), is charged with accepting a $10,000 cash bribe from Roberto Canaán, a witness in the Senasa corruption case. Prosecution director Wilson Camacho said investigators ran a controlled delivery: marked bills were photographed, handed to Canaán, and later found on Valdez. On June 3, 2026, the Second Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice unanimously upheld a three-month preventive detention order originally issued by Judge Isis Muñiz; Valdez is held at Najayo Hombres. He maintains his innocence and says he has audiovisual evidence contradicting the charges. He has not been convicted.
