What happened
Mumbai police's Economic Offences Wing registered an FIR on May 6, 2025 against 13 people, including three BMC officials, five contractors and middlemen, over desilting of the Mithi river. Police allege tender specifications were tailored to benefit one machinery supplier, rates were inflated, and contractors used forged weighbridge and log records and MoUs with land owners, some with forged signatures or signed by people with no land (in one case a named owner who died about 20 years earlier), alleging a loss to the BMC of more than Rs 65.54 crore on contracts awarded 2017-2023. These are allegations; no conviction has been reported. The Bombay High Court granted bail in April 2026 to Ketan Kadam, CEO of Virgo Specialities, finding the record did not substantiate his alleged role.
