What happened
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission charged Jamil Khir Baharom, who served as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Religious Affairs from 2009 to 2018, at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on September 14, 2026, with three counts of dishonest misappropriation of property under Section 403 of the Penal Code. The charges allege he caused Lembaga Tabung Haji (Malaysia's pilgrim fund board) to dispose of RM860,308,770.51 (about SAR766 million) to Saudi Arabia-based Al-Rawda Real Estate Development and Projects Management Co Ltd, following a Royal Commission of Inquiry into Tabung Haji's affairs that has resulted in charges against five people to date. Jamil Khir claimed trial (pleaded not guilty), saying Tabung Haji's decisions were based on its board's own recommendations.
