What happened
On May 13, 2026, DRC's Cour des Comptes (Supreme Audit Institution) announced at a Kinshasa press briefing that its review of monthly ministry accounts found expenses recorded without proper supporting documents, which the court said constitutes a presumption of embezzlement, in violation of budget and accounting rules. First President Jimmy Munganga Ngwaka and Prosecutor General Guy Tshipata Mulumba said audits would be extended across public institutions and that public accountants found responsible would face judicial prosecution.
