What happened
On 6 August 2026 prosecutors indicted settler Yinon Levi for reckless homicide, armed trespass and malicious damage over the July 2025 killing of activist Awdah Hathaleen in Umm al-Khair. Yesh Din said an Israeli civilian was last indicted over a Palestinian's killing in the West Bank in 2019; B'Tselem called the case 'the exception that proves the rule'. A Guardian analysis, reported by Daily Sabah in March 2026, found no indictments for roughly 1,100 Palestinian civilians killed by soldiers and settlers since 2020, and that fewer than 1% of complaints against soldiers (per Yesh Din) led to charges. Levi's defense contests the charges.
