What happened
The Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts' audit of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025, filed June 26, 2026) reports a federal-awards procurement finding rated a material weakness and material noncompliance, with $264,966.68 in questioned costs under the Special Education Cluster. It also repeats a finding, first reported in 2023 and again in 2024, that the Institute did not remit unclaimed property to the State Treasurer's Office as state law requires. The report notes management does not agree with all of the findings, and the financial statements received an unmodified opinion.
