A Commission of Inquiry announced on 14 November 2025 after Tanzania's 29 October 2025 election handed its report to President Samia Suluhu Hassan on 23 April 2026; Amnesty International says it found at least 518 people died of unnatural causes, including gunshot injuries. The president has not made the report public. On 18 May 2026 she appointed a separate criminal-investigation commission to identify perpetrators; The Chanzo reports it was inaugurated on 7 August 2026. Amnesty and former Prime Minister Warioba have criticised the confidentiality of the first report. Human Rights Watch said it sent findings on the killing of bystanders to the police and the commission on 6 March 2026 and received no response by 19 March.
