What happened
Phoenix New Times reported on February 11, 2025 that the City of Phoenix Ethics Commission, first created by ordinance in 2017 but not actually seated with members until December 2023, had not found or referred a single ethics violation to the City Council in its first year of operation despite receiving eight complaints, and that its case dispositions are explained only in brief, formulaic one-page summaries with no public detail on the commission's reasoning. City spokesperson Ashley Patton confirmed on the record that eight complaints awaited the commission when it began operating and that no new complaints had been filed since.
