What happened
On 15 February 2026 the Israeli cabinet approved opening a land registration process in Area C of the West Bank, allocating NIS 244 million for 2026-2030 and about 35 new positions across the Justice Ministry, the Survey of Israel and the Defense Ministry and Civil Administration, with a goal of registering 15% of unregistered land within five years. The Justice Ministry's Land Registry is to lead the process with authorization from the IDF Central Command commander. Justice Minister Yariv Levin called it 'a real revolution in Judea and Samaria'. The Palestinian presidency called the step a de facto annexation of occupied Palestinian territory, and Peace Now and Yesh Din warned it could let hundreds of thousands of dunams be declared state land; Smotrich said it provides legal certainty.
