What happened
A 17-year-old girl (known publicly as Martita) disappeared in Chicoloapan, State of Mexico, on February 21, 2016, and was later found to have been a victim of feminicide. The State of Mexico's human rights commission (CODHEM), in Recommendation 6/2024, found that state prosecutors failed to act with diligence in the critical first 24 hours, issued only a basic crime report instead of an Amber Alert, never executed the search bulletins and orders that were issued, recorded inconsistent information about the time of death, and did not investigate with a gender perspective. CODHEM published the recommendation, directed at the Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de México, on August 19, 2025, ordering reparations, psychological support for the family, administrative accountability for responsible officials, training, and reinvestigation with due diligence.
