What happened
Federal law requires House members to report stock transactions within 30 days of notification and no later than 45 days after the transaction. Four filings by Wasserman Schultz show seven such transactions: four Westell Technologies purchases dated Oct 13, 2020, reported July 27, 2021 (287 days; filing 20019167); an Oct 27, 2022 sale of Adams Resources & Energy, reported July 11, 2023 (257 days; filing 20023283); a Dec 18, 2023 sale of a First Trust fund, reported July 1, 2024 (196 days; filing 20025360); and a Feb 28, 2024 purchase of New Gold Inc., reported July 1, 2025 (489 days; filing 20030577). The filings list the owner as a dependent child (code DC) for the Adams Resources sale, the First Trust sale and three of the four Westell purchases; the fourth Westell purchase and the New Gold purchase carry no owner code. Each is in the $1,001 to $15,000 range. The filings give notification dates of July 26, 2021, Oct 28, 2022, June 21, 2024 and June 27, 2025, so the 2021, 2024 and 2025 reports were filed 1, 10 and 4 days after notification, within the 30-day window, while the 2023 report was filed 256 days after its notification date. No House Ethics Committee action on these filings was found. The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported the 2021 Westell filings on Aug. 3, 2021 and quoted her spokesman: "This was an oversight, and corrected once it was recognized." In July 2025 the Tampa Free Press, relaying OpenSecrets reporting, called the New Gold filing her fourth late STOCK Act disclosure and said her office acknowledged OpenSecrets' inquiry but did not answer its questions. The House Ethics Committee can waive STOCK Act late fees and does not publicly disclose its decisions, so whether any fee was assessed or paid is not public. She represents FL-25 now; the FL-20 seat is vacant.
