What happened
Colonel Michael Randrianirina leads Madagascar's transitional government after the October 2025 Gen Z uprising, and its 'Refoundation' agenda includes fighting corruption. In March 2026 he dismissed the prime minister and cabinet and named Mamitiana Rajaonarison, who had led the financial intelligence unit SAMIFIN since 2021, as prime minister, saying the country needs 'a person of integrity' (Al Jazeera, 16 March 2026). In a national television address on 31 May 2026, RFI reports, he acknowledged the limits of his action and admitted that nothing had really changed on corruption, which had been a strong promise of the October 2025 uprising. Madagascar's Bureau Indépendant Anti-Corruption (BIANCO) lists an online anonymous complaint platform, i-Toroka, plus phone numbers and an email address on its website.
