What happened
In October 2025, masked gunmen publicly executed several men in a Gaza City street after clashes with the Doghmush family, according to video obtained by Reuters; at least two gunmen appeared to wear headbands typically worn by Hamas's military wing, though NBC News could not verify they were Hamas members. Al Mezan Center for Human Rights reports eight men were killed and called for an investigation. In August 2026 Amnesty International attributed the killings of eight Dughmush family members to Hamas-affiliated forces, including the Al-Qassam Brigades, and said no one responsible has been held to account; Hamas officials say they opened preliminary investigations. A June UN report counted 249 cases of extrajudicial executions and severe physical violence in Gaza between August 2024 and early 2026, at least 60 involving Hamas-affiliated forces. Hamas did not respond to NBC's request for comment.
