What happened
A Periodic Transaction Report that Rep. Lisa McClain filed with the Clerk of the House on August 13, 2025 lists 722 transactions in accounts owned by her spouse. By the transaction dates printed in the filing, 545 of them occurred more than 45 days before it was filed, the longest 520 days earlier (the earliest dated March 11, 2024). The STOCK Act requires members to report a covered transaction within 30 days of notice and no later than 45 days after it occurs. In an October 20, 2025 letter to the Acting Clerk, filed with the Clerk's office on October 23, 2025 and headed "Late PTR," McClain wrote that ten additional transactions from her husband's tax-deferred account, dated June and July 2025 and with notification dates of August 11, 2025, "should have been included" in the August 13 filing. The listed amounts range from $15,001-$50,000 up to $100,001-$250,000 per transaction. She wrote that she had recently retained new counsel to review and prepare her 2024 financial disclosure and related reports, that those attorneys, "serving as third-party preparers," reported hundreds of transactions and found the ten additional ones during due diligence, and that "I am taking aggressive measures to ensure full compliance in the future." The letter does not address why the 545 older trades were reported after the 45-day limit. NOTUS reported that her office did not respond to its phone and email messages and that it was unclear whether she had paid a late-filing fee; the Detroit News covered the August filing and the Michigan Advance covered the October letter, and Michigan Advance likewise reported that its message to her press secretary about fines was not returned.
