What happened
On 19 August 2026 the Military Advocate General ordered a Military Police investigation into the March 2025 killing of 15 Palestinian medics and emergency workers in Rafah, whose ambulances and emergency vehicles were fired on by troops. The military said troops mistakenly targeted vehicles they identified as hostile and that six of those killed were identified as Hamas-affiliated; a deputy commander had earlier been directed to step down. Rights groups cited by AP note that 0.17 percent of military investigations from 2014 to 2022 led to prosecution.
