What happened
In August 2021 a woman in Chimalhuacan, State of Mexico, reported two relatives for violence, and protective measures were ordered in her favor by the prosecutor's office and a judge. She was found killed at her home on February 26, 2022. The State of Mexico human rights commission (CODHEM), in Recommendation 05/2023, found that the state prosecutor's office (FGJEM) and the Chimalhuacan municipal government violated her rights to due diligence, timely adoption and execution of protective measures and court orders, and to life and personal security, and ordered institutional apologies. Chimalhuacan apologized on October 13, 2023 and the FGJEM held its apology in November 2023. CODHEM also referred the matter to internal oversight bodies to determine administrative liability.
