What happened
On 28 March 2024, ruling on a further South African request, the Court reaffirmed its January order and indicated additional provisional measures, stating that Palestinians in Gaza were "no longer facing only a risk of famine... but that famine is setting in." It ordered Israel to take all necessary and effective measures, without delay and in full cooperation with the United Nations, to ensure the unhindered provision at scale of food, water, electricity, fuel, shelter, medical supplies and other humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza, including by increasing the capacity and number of land crossing points and keeping them open. The order again required Israel to report to the Court within one month on the measures taken to give effect to it.
