What happened
On October 28, 2025 the ruling Georgian Dream party, through Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, asked Georgia's Constitutional Court to declare the United National Movement, the Coalition for Change and Strong Georgia-Lelo unconstitutional, saying they deny the government's legitimacy and threaten the constitutional order. Opposition leaders called the move a blow to democracy; Lelo filed its own Constitutional Court suit on October 27 and the UNM on November 10, 2025 challenging the laws on party bans.
