What happened
In February 2024 California's Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) found two Los Angeles County facilities, Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall and the Barry J. Nidorf facility, unsuitable, citing among other things low staffing and use of force, NBC Los Angeles reported. Fox 11 reported that the closure process stopped after the county raised staffing ahead of an April deadline. In October 2024 a state regulator again declared Los Padrinos unsuitable and said it must close in 60 days, which Fox 11 reported was because of unsafe conditions caused by staffing shortages. The Probation Department said it was disappointed and was working to address the issues. The sources reviewed do not say what happened after the October 2024 order.
