What happened
A woman requested a protection order at a Guardia Civil post in Sanlucar la Mayor (Seville) on September 17, 2016 after reporting abuse by her husband; the Guardia Civil rated her risk 'no apreciado' (not appreciated) and a judge denied the order, citing contradictory statements and the accused's lack of prior record. On October 16, 2016 her husband killed her. In a judgment dated September 30, 2020 and publicised by the judiciary on October 14, 2020, the Audiencia Nacional's contentious-administrative chamber partly upheld the family's claim and ordered the Interior Ministry to pay 20,000 euros to each parent and 70,000 euros to each of her two minor children (180,000 euros in total), finding the Guardia Civil post showed less sensitivity to gender violence than was required. The amounts were reduced to reflect the husband's and the court's share of fault.
