What happened
In July 2025, Council President Sara Nelson and Councilmember Rob Saka skipped a Housing and Human Services Committee meeting at the last minute, denying it the quorum needed to vote on appointments to the newly created Seattle Renters Commission. Saka told reporters he had "unexpected personal conflicts," but multiple council sources told PubliCola he was in his office with the door closed just feet from the chambers while the meeting was underway. The appointments were seated a week later after public and council backlash.
