Sorrento mayor Massimo Coppola arrested in flagrante for taking a bribe over school-meal and other municipal contracts

On 21 May 2025, Sorrento mayor Massimo Coppola was arrested in flagrante delicto while pocketing a €6,000 cash bribe at a restaurant dinner, part of alleged total payments of around €66,000 from a contractor holding a €4.5 million municipal school-meals contract, plus a further €50,000 tied to a separate kindergarten renovation contract. A search of Coppola's home turned up more than €34,000 in cash.
