Chengdu police detain two journalists three days after their WeChat report on a Sichuan county Party secretary, citing 'false accusations' and 'illegal business operations'

Journalists Liu Hu and Wu Yingjiao published a WeChat report on 29 January 2026 alleging corruption by Pu Fayou, Party Secretary of Pujiang County, Sichuan, and were detained on 1 February 2026. Chengdu police said they were under investigation for 'making false accusations' and 'illegal business operations'; they were released on bail in mid-February with the cases still open.
