Former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai detained and probed by EFCC over N432bn allegedly misappropriated during his 2015-2023 tenure

A 2024 Kaduna State House of Assembly report accused the administration of former governor Nasir El-Rufai of misappropriating loans, awarding contracts without due process, and diverting public funds, totaling an alleged N432 billion, while leaving the state heavily indebted. The EFCC detained and interrogated El-Rufai over multiple days in February 2026 over the allegations, and he was later arraigned on corruption charges and remanded by a court.
