Tunisia's Court of Accounts finds over 1 billion dinars in losses from illegal salary and bonus payments at 11 state enterprises

According to a presidential communique after President Kais Saied received the Court of Accounts' annual report on 9 January 2026, the court's audits found that 11 public enterprises recorded losses of nearly 1.07 billion dinars, including Tunisair (over 316 million dinars) and the Office of the Merchant Marine and Ports (about 291 million dinars). The reports attribute the losses notably to salaries, bonuses and allowances paid without legal basis, combined with weak internal control.
