Panama prosecutors apprehend seven people in alleged B/.8.1 million embezzlement from the Belisario Porras community council in San Miguelito

On 6 May 2026 Panama's Public Prosecutor's Office, through its Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, announced the apprehension of seven people in 'Operación Eco Distante' over alleged embezzlement (peculado) to the detriment of the Belisario Porras community council (Junta Comunal) in San Miguelito. An audit report from the Comptroller General attached to the case puts the economic harm to the state at B/.8,098,668.62.
