Buenos Aires city government pre-awarded its public TV channel to a private operator after ENACOM warned in a letter that the plan would breach the national Media Law.
According to a communication from ENACOM interventor Juan Luis Ozores, reported by Tiempo Argentino on May 1, 2026 (dated April 10; the document was leaked and its lawyer-cited authenticity had not been confirmed by ENACOM), the regulator told the Buenos Aires city government that its tender to hand operation of Canal de la Ciudad and other city media to a private operator conflicts with Article 44 of the national Media Law, which bars licensees from delegating operation, and warned it would open a sanctioning process if the tender continued. La Nacion reports that on June 23, 2026 the city, led by Jorge Macri, pre-awarded a five-year management concession of Canal de la Ciudad to Cale Group Media SA, headed by Augusto Marini, which offered a monthly fee of $50 million versus $15 million from Argentinos Media SA, whose bid was rejected for omitting required financial documents.
