KPK arrests Riau Governor Abdul Wahid in sting operation, names him suspect in provincial public-works extortion scheme

Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested Riau Governor Abdul Wahid in a sting operation on November 3, 2025, and two days later formally named him a suspect for allegedly extorting a roughly 2.5% fee from a padded 2025 budget increase (from Rp71.6 billion to Rp177.4 billion) for the Riau Public Works agency's roads and bridges unit. His agency head and a gubernatorial aide were also named suspects, and prosecutors later sought an 8.5-year prison sentence.
