Anti-corruption commission finds former Phuket governor 'unusually wealthy' with 321.67 million baht in unexplained assets
Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission announced it would seek indictment of Chamroen Thipphayaphongthada, who served as Governor of Phuket from October 2015 and later governed Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phangnga, and Satun provinces, after finding he, his spouse, and minor child held assets totaling 321.67 million baht -- including bank accounts, 22 land plots, and six vehicles -- that were inconsistent with his lawful earnings as a state official and whose origin he could not prove. NACC secretary-general Surapong Intharathawon said the commission is forwarding the investigation file to the Office of the Attorney General to petition a court to seize the assets and transfer them to the state.
