Luxembourg auditors found the Pirate Party's parliamentary group used public funds for loans to its own party and one of its deputies.
A Cour des comptes special report on the Pirates' parliamentary group accounts for 2018-2023, published February 4, 2026, found the group granted loans to the Piraten party (EUR 9,000 in 2019, repaid, and a EUR 3,426 advance) and a EUR 32,747 loan in 2021 to one of its deputies to settle tax debts, with no contract; EUR 31,085 was still outstanding at end 2023. The Court said lending 'is not part of a parliamentary group's missions and constitutes a non-conforming use of public funds.' It also flagged incomplete or missing supporting documents in about a third of cases, a shared accounting license between party and group, and questioned expenses including restaurant and hairdresser costs.
