Jordan's Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission detains a Greater Amman Municipality district director over an alleged $56,400 bribery scheme, as parliament separately orders GAM to report on suspected corruption
In May 2026, the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (IACC) prosecutor ordered the 15-day detention of a Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) district director and two legal facilitators accused of soliciting JD40,000 (about $56,400) from an investor in exchange for a café license, falsely claiming the payment was ordered by 'influential figures.' The following month, the Lower House's Finance Committee, reviewing the Audit Bureau's findings, gave GAM one week to report on potential employment-related violations and directed the heads of its construction and finance sectors and its general inspector to investigate suspected financial and administrative corruption.
