A state audit found the Sedgwick County Appraiser's Office failed for years to forward roughly 130 industrial-revenue-bond tax exemption filings to the state Board of Tax Appeals as required by law, a lapse traced to a single employee's 30-year-long oversight failure
The Kansas Legislative Division of Post Audit's July 8, 2026 report on Industrial Revenue Bond reporting found that the Sedgwick County Appraiser's Office had not forwarded roughly 112 Industrial Revenue Bond property tax exemption applications and 18 Economic Development Exemption applications to the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals as state law requires. The county says its Appraiser's Office discovered the lapse itself in July 2025, that it was the responsibility of a single now-former employee over a 30-year span, and that it disclosed the issue to state auditors before the audit began.
