Montezuma County commissioners set a September 1 deadline for the sheriff's internal timekeeping investigation results, with a forensic audit of up to $50,000 going back five years if they were not received
Resolution 8-2026 of the Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners states that county administration raised a serious timekeeping and payroll issue with the Sheriff's Office in May 2026, that the Sheriff's Office opened an internal affairs investigation, and that the Board formally requested the full results on July 6, 2026. The resolution says that if the results had not been received by September 1, the county would seek independent review of the investigation or proceed with a forensic audit of timekeeping at the Sheriff's Office going back five years, spending up to $50,000.
